About the Authors

Kal Wagenheim is a former New York Times reporter and has taught journalism and creative writing at Columbia University and the State Prison in Trenton, NJ. He is the author of several books and plays including Clemente! The Enduring Legacy and the novel The Secret Life of Walter Mott.

Olga Jiménez de Wagenheim is Professor Emerita in History, Rutgers University. She has published several books on Puerto Rico, including Puerto Rico: An Interpretive History from Pre-Columbian Times to 1900, Puerto Rico's Revolt for Independence: El Grito de Lares, and Nationalist Heroines: Puerto Rican Women History Forgot, 1930s-1950s.

Luis Martínez-Fernández is Pegasus Professor of History at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. His research and publications have focused on Cuba, the Hispanic Caribbean, and the Cuban and Puerto Rican diasporas in Florida. He is the author of several books including Frontiers, Plantations, and Walled Cities and When the World Went Upside Down.
