This book is designed to help those who have lost someone through death -- to imagine the path before them. There is no sure route on how to grieve. Jerusha McCormack provides instead a series of signposts by which we may find our own path to a new life. 'We are all amateurs at grief,' she writes, 'it comes to us all; we must all go through it. To treat grief as a problem to be fixed, or (worse still) to medicalize it, is to rob us of the extraordinary privilege of encountering this experience on our terms: for each of us has our own way of grieving, and each of us has something special to learn from the process.' For anyone coping with how to grieve, or dealing with loss.

'Anyone who is grieving or anyone who knows a grieving person will find hope and support in this small book.' --Publishers' Weekly, 16 January 2006
From the Author
This book arises from my own husband’s death. What it taught me is that grieving is one of the most powerful – and important – experiences open to us. Yet the world tries to deny its centrality – or deflect the grieving from attending to their loss. For that reason, I have tried to give an honest account of what grieving entails and how it can be turned around. The emphasis is on practical strategies by which one can transform loss into something positive.
The book also addresses those who accompany the grieving in a series of "Guidelines for Spirit Guardians." These offer advice on how others involved can be fully present and helpful. All in all, this is a small and simply-written book, designed to be slipped into someone’s hand at a funeral – as the best guide to the journey ahead.
