About the Author

Richard S. Hillman is professor of political science and director of the Institute for the Study of Democracy and Human Rights at St. John's Fisher College. He is author of Democracy for the Privileged: Crisis and Transition in Venezuela, editor of Understanding Contemporary Latin America, and coauthor, with Thomas J. D'Agostino, of Distant Neighbors in the Caribbean: The Dominican Republic and Jamaica in Comparative Perspective. Thomas J.
