Information literacy instruction is best when it is integrated into actual research, and in higher education that means embedding librarianship into the learning management system. Tumbleson and Burke have implemented an embedded librarianship program at their university and have surveyed 280 librarians for information on related activities. They conclude that scalability is an issue and offer direction in starting a program that can be adapted and made sustainable, including information on: Implementing a simple pilot program with a librarian and one or two faculty Understanding and managing workload 9 tips for an effective email solicitation asking faculty to participate 10 selling points to attract students to your LMS services

Beth E. Tumbleson is Assistant Director of the Gardner-Harvey Library on the Middletown regional campus of Miami University (Ohio), USA.
John J. Burke is the Director of the Gardner-Harvey Library and a past president of the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO), USA. He has held positions in systems, reference, and public service and was program director for a web-based associate degree in library technology at the University of Cincinnati Raymond Walters College, USA. He is author of three books, including The Neal-Schuman Library Technology Companion: A Basic Guide for Library Staff, now in its third edition.
The instructors have presented on embedded librarianship at various national, state and regional conferences including ACRL, LOEX, and the LITA National Forum.
