After fleeing to Chicago five years earlier, Elita Dupree returns to her ancestral home on Louisiana’s mysterious Caddo Lake. Now twenty-two, Elita seeks answers to questions about her father’s death, questions that cast shadows over her childhood memories of him. On her first trip into the bayous of Caddo Lake, Elita encounters Jax Boudreaux, a shotgun toting loner who warns her to stay out of the Caddo. When Royce Sutton finds her and offers to take her home, Elita is overjoyed, but soon learns that the teenager to whom she’d given her heart is now a bitter young man, scarred by war, and filled with secrets. Before she went away, they’d been kindred spirits, in love, and trusted each other completely. But no matter how much they’ve changed, they can’t resist their smoldering passions. As she navigates their turbulent relationship, Elita discovers some of the secrets Royce is keeping involve her family. Trust in the people she loves most erodes with each new unanswered question. The truth lies in Caddo Lake, and Elita won’t rest until she finds it. But while she is hunting answers, someone…or something…is hunting her.

Deborah was born and raised in the piney woods of Southeast Texas in what is now called the Big Thicket. The tom-boy granddaughter of a Baptist preacher, she grew up in a world of gospel music, Sunday dinners at grandma’s house, and more cousins than she could count. And of course, there were lots of animals. Horses, cows, chicks, rabbits, cats, dogs, and one armadillo all managed to grab a piece of her heart. She came of age during the era of the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, Jim Crow, the Beatles, and moon landings. It was a volatile, yet exciting time in our history. Decades spent trying to understand the complexities and the impact of these influences permeate her storytelling. Although a transplanted Southerner, Deborah cannot resist the pull of the generations of her Southern roots. That is why she writes stories about characters steeped in the lyrical traditions and mystical surroundings of the Deep South that she loves so much. Deborah has a degree in biology and English with post graduate studies in chemistry. After working in the scientific field for twenty years, she and her family moved to the beautiful mountains of Montana. It was here that she began writing fiction and nonfiction. Her award-winning nonfiction and poetry have been published in newspapers and magazines in Montana and nationally. The author’s best selling first novel, Breaking TWIG, has 1700+ Five-star ratings and reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, and is available in ebook, paperback, and audiobook on Amazon. Her next novel, Shadows of Home, a romantic-suspense set in the bayous of Louisiana, is due out in April, 2017. When not working on her next novel or article, Deborah enjoys reading, playing the piano, volunteering in animal rescue, and doing pet therapy work with her BFF golden retriever, Jasmine.
