Synopsis

These are simple illustrations of the law which applies also in human life. We must die to be useful—to be truly a blessing. Our Lord put this truth in a little parable, when he said that the seed must fall into the earth and die that it may bear fruit. Christ's own cross is the highest illustration of this.

About the Author

J.R. Miller, D.D., was a pastor, author, and editor of the Presbyterian Board of Publication. He served as pastor in churches from Philadelphia to northern Illinois, and under his leadership every church he pastored grew to over 1,000 members in a short period of time. The title of his biography, written after his death in 1912, best sums up this godly man's life and philosophy, which was also one of his favorite phrases: “Jesus and I are friends.”
