Synopsis

Excerpt from Autobiography of John Younger: Shoemaker, St. Boswells

In order to understand some of the allusions readers must remember that the Autobiography was originally written in the form of epistles addressed to Mr. Robert Riddell at London, by his friend and relative, to which, in their collected form, the author had given the title Obscurities in Private Life De veloped; or, Robinson Crusoe Untravelled.

The Publishers would take this opportunity of expressing their obligations to Mr. William Brockie, Bishopwearmouth, an intimate and attached friend of John Younger's, for reading the proofs as the work passed through the press, and for several notes which supply information regarding some of the indi viduals named in the text, as well as for the valuable supplementary chapter, which, as it were, completes and crowns the work.
