About the Author

T. W. Manson was born in 1893 and died in 1958. Educated at Tynemouth High School and at the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge, he was a minister, and in 1953 Moderator of the General Assembly, of the Presbyterian Church of England. He was Yates Professor of New Testament Greek and Exegesis at Mansfield College, Oxford, from 1932 to 1936, when he was appointed Rylands Professor of Biblical Criticism and Exegesis in the University of Manchester. He was a Doctor of Divinity of the Universities of Cambridge, Dublin, Durham and Glasgow. Among his many publications may be mentioned The Sayings of Jesus. He was one of the founder-Editors of the Studies in Biblical Theology and Ethics and The Gospel (SCM Press) and The Teaching of Jesus and The Servant Messiah.
