The tenth edition of State and Local Government in a Federal System continues the tradition of comprehensive coverage, providing teachers with choices that are suitable to either two- or three-unit courses with an emphasis on local or state government. This edition (former editions with lead author Daniel Mandelker) includes three new co-authors who have contributed to substantial restructuring of the book. Some older cases have been replaced with more modern ones. Notes following the cases have been streamlined. Material from the ninth edition's Chapter 11 has been relocated to other parts of the book and a new Chapter 11 concerns an emerging area of study: state and local elections. Problems for students to work through have been relocated to the end of each chapter and in some cases replaced.
All other aspects of the book have been thoroughly updated, including those relating to federalism, state courts, executive branches, legislatures, state employment, and more. This edition is particularly timely in that it integrates coverage of emerging legal issues relating to the dramatic changes happening at the federal level when those changes affect the state-federal and state-local relationships.
