This book provides a comprehensive and advanced analysis of Internet and Telecommunications Regulation, drawing on administrative, constitutional, and economic issues that arise in these important industries. This new book includes material from the authors' previous book, Telecommunications Law and Policy, which focused on the traditionally regulated fields of broadcast, telephony, and cable television, along with some materials on the Internet. Reflecting the importance of Internet platforms and questions of their regulation, the book has now been extensively updated with additional materials covering the Internet—and specifically the extension of communications and other regulation to the Internet. The key legal debate over net neutrality, for example, arises out of the foundational telecommunications statute and relies on distinctions that have been central to the regulation of telephony. The book contains discussions and excerpts from legal materials to help readers understand current controversies, regulatory strategies, and the historical developments that led to them. Summaries and previews at the start of each set of readings help students know what to read for, and questions at the end of each excerpt encourage students to think critically about those materials. The organization easily permits the selection of material for courses focused only on particular industries or only on particular types of regulation.
