This small book is a portion of an Introduction to a larger work on the Physical Development and Proportions of the Human Body, which I have in pre paration; hence its fragmentary character. It is published in this form in order, if possible, to incite a wider interest in an important and interesting field of study hitherto much neglected, and to invite the cooperation of those observers who have already devoted some attention to the subject, with a View to establishing a uniform method of making and recording measurements on the external form of man for scientific purposes.
