Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book details a collaborative study between the US Army Corps of Engineers and researchers at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The primary objective was to provide greater certainty for Roughans Point's flood protection plan. The study examines several possible solutions such as seawalls, numerical storm surge modeling, and wave modeling. The authors simulate wave overtopping, flood levels, and route floodwaters through the Roughans Point area to calculate maximum stage for each event. Using this data the authors then established frequency curves that relate the elevation of floodwaters to average waiting time between floods of equal severity. The study, however, is not limited to Roughans Point and provides potentially important information for the design, planning, or study of other coastal flood damage reduction projects. The techniques and general knowledge developed in this book will benefit the broader civil engineering community and improve our ability to protect coastal populations from the impacts of storm surge and wave overtopping.
