Excerpt from Investigation of Extended Bulb Angle Sections Under Compression: Part One, as Euler Columns; Part Two, as Stiffeners Attached to Sheet; Thesis
This investigation has established the following facts Above an effective length/radius of gyration of about 78, extruded bulb angle sections follow the Euler curve. In the short column range the Straight Line Formula gives a more conservative value than the Johnson Parabolic Formula. From the experimental data the proportional limit for 24st extruded sections was found to be 17006 lhs/ing. When investigating extruded bulb angle sections used as columns for possible local plate failure, since the condition of support at the base of the angle is neither clamped nor simply supported, but an intermediate case, it is suggested that a value of K equal to be used in the formula of Timoshenko for plate failure, when the ratio length/width is greater than four. Unfor tunately, this suggestion is made on the basis of only.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the behavior of extruded bulb angle sections when used as columns for possible local plate failure and when acting as stiffeners attached to sheet, as seen in aeronautical construction. The author established that above an effective length/radius of gyration of about 78, extruded bulb angle sections follow the Euler curve. In the short column range, the Straight Line Formula gives a more conservative value than the Johnson Parabolic Formula. From the experimental data, the proportional limit for 24ST extruded sections was found to be 17006 lbs/in2. When investigating extruded bulb angle sections used as columns for possible local plate failure, the author suggests that a value of K equal to 3 be used in the formula of Timoshenko for plate failure, when the ratio length/width is greater than four. The author offers these insights on the basis of experimental plate failures. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781528126359_0
