Excerpt from Tests of Instruments for the Determination, Indication, or Recording of the Specific Gravities of Gases
In order to avoid variations of possible importance during testing and to determine the effects of both temperature and humidity on the specific-gravity measurements, the laboratory was air conditioned. In order to place the results obtained over an extended period of time on a common basis, all the instruments were tested at 25° C (77° F) and those affected by the water content of the laboratory air were tested with the air containing percent of water vapor, correspond ing to a relative humidity of 35 percent at 77° F. Other tempera tures and humidities were employed when some of the test gases were used to establish the effect of the changes. In all cases, ample time was allowed for the temperature and water content of the air of the laboratory to become steady and for the instruments to reach equi librium with them before testing was started.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a concise study of instruments available in the 1940s for determining specific gravities of gases. These instruments differ markedly in type and applicability, and the author provides an in-depth examination of each. Experimental setups, accuracy and reproducibility, and sources of error are carefully described. Additionally, temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide level effects on instrument readings are considered. The author's meticulous research and clear explanations equip readers to select the best instrument for their specific needs and to account for potential sources of error. This book is an indispensable resource for understanding the nuances of specific gravity measurement and selecting the best instruments for the job. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
