This thought-provoking book analyzes the events of the 1848 French Revolution through a unique lens, utilizing reports from an investigative commission impaneled to investigate revolutionary events. The commission's inquiries ranged from the initial February uprising to the violent June Days, with a particular focus on the role of certain prominent figures, including Ledru-Rollin and Louis Blanc. The author exposes inconsistencies and evidentiary problems in the commission's report, revealing numerous instances where bias influenced the conclusions reached. Through this analysis, the book underscores the importance of impartiality and due process in political investigations, highlighting how easily political agendas can undermine the pursuit of truth. Ultimately, this book serves as a valuable reminder of the fragility of democracy and the constant need for vigilance against those who seek to manipulate public perception and undermine the rights of citizens.
