Excerpt from Universities in America: An Inaugural Address Delivered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, October 1st, 1863
Great credit is due to those who managed the affairs of this University during its early history, though for some reason an impression has prevailed among those unacquainted with the facts, that the University was not so conducted for several years as to meet the anticipation of its founders or the proper de mands of the State. This impression is wrong.
