Excerpt from Metering of Fluids at High Velocities With Vortex Shedding Flowmeters
The cryogenic liquid flow facility at nasa Marshall Space Flight Center can produce lox and liquid nitrogen (lnz) flows at high velocities. This facility was eventually used for some cryogenic tests. However, water is close to lox in most properties except viscosity, and tests can be done at lower cost. Unfortunately, most water flow test facilities are not built toprovide flow at the high pressures needed to achieve the high flows required.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the findings of the author's research into the design and testing of vortex shedding flowmeters for measuring fluid flows at high velocities, particularly in the context of the Space Shuttle Main Engines. The author provides a detailed account of the process of designing flowmeters that could meet the demanding requirements of these engines, including the challenges posed by the extreme flow velocities and the presence of bends in the ducts. The book also explores the effects of fluid viscosity and the presence of upstream bends on the performance of the flowmeters. Ultimately, the author demonstrates that vortex shedding flowmeters can be successfully designed to measure fluid flows in these extreme conditions, providing valuable insights into the design and application of flowmeters in high-velocity, high-pressure environments.
