Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the reasons for the widespread economic stagnation found in Canada's Eastern Townships during the mid-19th century. The author argues that the stagnation was caused by a combination of factors including excessive land speculation, unfair landownership laws that placed an unfair tax burden on smaller landowners, and inefficient local government. The book concludes with a series of recommendations for policies that the author believed would reverse the stagnation and help the province prosper.
