The studies and researches of the late Samuel L. Knapp, in American Literature and Biography, as well as in many other subjects with which he was familiar, render the portions of the Treasury of Knowledge which passed under his super vision, and are enriched with his contributions, peculiarly valuable. The other compilations which are contained in these volumes, from various hands, speak for themselves each part possessing its own excelleucies, and forming an essen tial portion of this Library of Reference. We may here remark. That the vari ous separate publications of which these volumes are a complete synopsis, could not be purchased for a less sum than seventy-five or one hundred dollars.
