Excerpt from Geography for Children: Or a Short and Easy Method of Teaching and Learning Geography
Children should have a Map of their own Na tion, and study that before any other. And in order to their more speedy improvement, the master should assist his pupil in finding out upon the map the particular place of which his lesson treats, and at a future time examine him as to his recollection of what he has leafned, in order to fix his atten tion, and that he may retain the facts. It is highly necessary that the different parts of each of these maps should be distinguished by different colours, or at least by points or lines. To render the scholar acquainted with the meaning of geographical terms, two Prints are given, which likewise serve to assist the teacher in explaining them to his p ils.
