There has not been a war of modern times which was not the result of a spread of infection of a depraved thought-habit from a center formed of a few ambitious, fanatical or selfish individuals. Nor a war which could not have been avoided had the people of one or both the contesting parties done each his own think ing and been guided by that sense of justice which is innate in every one and is smothered only by prejudice, passion or false reasoning based upon false predicates.
