Synopsis
This book is an epic journey down the memory lane of my life, with all its joys and sorrows, tears and laughter.
From my birth in 1938 into extreme poverty in the Soviet Union, and the fear and racial abuse of my childhood, to my sexual awakenings behind the Iron Curtain of Soviet oppression (and the iron curtain of my Yiddishe mama), to immigrating to a segregated South Africa via Poland and Israel.
I recall many vivid experiences, struggles and disappointments among many colourful characters, including trying to get discovered in New York, becoming an existentialist in Mallorca, and moving to London in the ‘swinging sixties’ — where the only swinging I did was between extreme elation and total dejection.
That is, until I met the great R. D. Laing, psychiatrist, poet, musician and spiritual teacher. He introduced me to the path of awareness through the practices of Yoga and mindfulness, encouraging my dreams of performing, singing and playing music, and I began to overcome the traumas of my childhood and reconnect with the love in my heart.
I hope you enjoy joining me on this journey, and witnessing my strange (and often very funny) ways of surviving.
