Synopsis
Basic Existential Boy is a magnificent collection of 65 poems written by Jim Cockburn, covering heartfelt topics from the immediate aftermath of World War 2, living in the shadow of his elder’s sacrifice through to his recent experience with Covid 19.
"There is no hiding in a book like this, his poems and his heart are on show for all the world to see. But, and here is the point, his poems merely hold the mirror up to the reader. So it is the reader who is exposed. His free-flowing verse, unhindered by academic rigour and grammar, breezes through universal themes and personal follies alike."
"They contour around aching, existential questions which lie at the heart of every true poet and prophet: Who are we? Why are we? Where are we going? These questions are shaped around the themes of social history, spirituality, nature, motherhood and the recent Covid-19 pandemic".
Read this book, savour it, reflect on it, return to it again and again. Each time there is more to see.
All proceeds from the sale of the original book will go to support the charity Epic Youth. Providing support, training and development to young people across the U.K.
