Synopsis

How an eight-year-old girl will introduce your daughter to a friendship with Jesus.

Jesus and me uses the story of Imma, 8, to help your child understand how friendship with Jesus is possible.

As a parent (of a nine-year-old girl) and children's author myself I see the other stories that society is feeding our children. Stories are powerful. Stories live us and change us.

So when God put on my heart the the story of a little girl who struggled to come to faith in Jesus - but who has a beautiful faith-building victory - I knew I should

write it.  It will influence the heart of your child for Christ.

So what's the story...?

Imma is 8 and she's praying for a hero to make the world a better place. She sees that things are wrong - and she hopes for a warrior to come. When she meets Jesus - she sees He has the power - but he won't use force or violence like the bad guys.

Why won't He just *snap*His fingers and change the world?

Jesus and me is the story of a girl who had questions for the Son of God - and wasn't afraid to ask them.

Here's what other parents have said:

  • "This is an excellent book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I know it will be loved by parents and children alike. A great read."

  • "This book was so sweet! This would be a particularly wonderful book for young girls, as an introduction to Christ... Wonderfully written!"

  • "Jesus and Me can help children to realize at a young age that 'knowing' Jesus is more that just being acquainted but it is about having a personal relationship with Him. I look forward to sharing this book with my preteen grandchildren."

In Jesus and Me your child will experience:

  1. Eight faith-building bible-based stories about Imma's encouters with Jesus - suitable for reading alone, together or in devotionals.

  2. The relatable character of Imma, a fun, fiesty 8-year-old who asks the kinds of questions a real child might.

  3. Beautiful hand-drawn colour pictures showing Imma's interactions with Jesus in a realistic world of Israel.

  4. Games that Imma played - your child can play the Jewish game of GAP!

  5. The chance to experience what friendship with the Son of God could be like.

As a parent you'll see:

  • Biblically respectful material; Scriptures references, the words of Jesus in blue.

  • Show your child where Imma and Jesus lived with an illustrated map of Ancient Israel.

  • Important Hebrew and Greek words to help your child in worship.

More comments by parents:

  • "... is a thought provoking story of a little girl that actually gets to meet Jesus. She gets to talk with him and ask questions that most children will ask at some point in life."

  • Jesus and Me is a wonderfully refreshing Christian children's book. The story is well paced, each chapter can be a sitting before bed. The phrasing of the stories, and the topics covered, allow discussion and exploration.

Review

“What first caught my attention was the illustrations - a Jesus that actually looks Jewish, and a little girl of color.  The story did not disappoint.  It was fun, and touching in some places, to see Jesus through Imma's eyes. I love the way Biblical truths and accurate historical details were woven into the story. A great way to teach kids about Jesus.”

Jesus and Me, written by Joshua Cartwright, is a thought provoking story of a little girl that actually gets to meet Jesus. She gets to talk with him and ask questions that most children will ask at some point in life. I loved how Jesus's responses are so gentle towards her and how that mirrors how Jesus is portrayed through-out the New Testament.

Karen Stringfield, author of Jesus, Help This Blended Family

The many stories of Jesus clearly show his love for children. “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them. For to such as these belong the kingdom of heaven.” The stories we hear in the New Testament are told by Jesus’s followers, his disciples, all adults. But, what about these children whom he loved so much? What about their stories? We can only surmise that children, like little Imma, had wonderful, loving stories about their experiences with Jesus. Imma heard many of Jesus’s stories and she was able to talk to him, simply, as a child would. She asked him simple questions, like “Are you saying that your teachings are like spiritual food?” This was after she had witnessed first-hand the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes. Jesus was able to talk to her at her level of understanding without making her feel insignificant. “You are my littlest disciple, Imma.”

Now, perhaps the Imma of these stories never existed, but there must have been many other children who met Jesus, interacted with him and learned from him – other littlest disciples. Joshua Cartwright’s children’s story, Jesus and Me: One Child’s Friendship with the Son of God, provides another look at the well-known stories of the Bible, a look through the eyes of children. This may be written for children, but since we are all children of God and must believe as children believe, then these stories are relevant to us older children as well. The illustrations carry the story along and the useful author note to parents helps explain the use of scripture to present a fictional story of a possible encounter between one child and Jesus. A wonderful learning tool to expand one’s faith, written for children of all ages.
