Synopsis

Major John Geoffrey Appleyard, DSO, MC and Bar is the subject of many books detailing his bravery from Dunkirk to West Africa and cross channel raids on Occupied France and the Channel Islands. Following service in the RASC, No.7 Commando and No. 62 Commando (where he commanded the Small Scale Raiding Force he was the first Second in Command of 2 SAS. He was posted Missing in Action on 13 July 1943 (aged 26) near Sicily, his remains were never discovered. Geoffrey's father wrote an illustrated memoir to Geoffrey in 1946, this book is still a collector's item not least as it contains many of Geoffrey's own words from his letters. With the permission and support of his family we have reprinted 700 hardback copies, each with a numbered bookplate. All proceeds after production and Amazon fees are to restore and maintain Geoffrey's Memorial in Bramley (Leeds) Baptist Churchyard. We maintain this and 80 other War and Remembered Graves, as volunteers, on a year round basis.
