Synopsis

“You tell her ‘bout killin’ ma?” Ella has never forgiven Cal for her mother’s death. Now, because of the Depression, he and Ella are forced to live under the same roof. Enter Dottie Walker, a young writer hired by the government to take oral histories. She convinces Cal to tell her his story and his daughter wants to make sure Dottie knows Cal is a murderer. But is he? Between accusations of murder, Cal tells Dottie about his childhood as an orphan, about working as a cowboy, and about finding the love of his life and then losing her in an incident that never should have happened. Will Ella believe him or continue to hold on to her idea of the truth?
