Synopsis

The I am Sent Discipleship Workbook is a six session course aimed at helping you, your small group or Sunday school class fulfill your hearts' two greatest desires. Now, it may surprise you to hear we know what those are. No, we haven’t hacked your phone or read your journal. We know them because we all share the same two. Sound preposterous? Try it sometime. If you were to travel the whole world asking people along the way what their two greatest desires were you would soon discover we all have the desire to know and experience deep, no strings attached, unconditional love and we all have a desire to know our lives have transcendent meaning or purpose. To know they matter in the eternal scheme of things. Now, we may not all use the same exact words but when you boil them down we’re all saying the same thing. It’s not a coincidence. Redeemed or not, we all long for those two things because God made us that way. He made us that way so we would seek them out and find their fulfillment in Him. That should tell us something about God. It should tell us that it’s His great desire to be in union with us. (Jn.17:21-26) Always has been. (Genesis) Always will. (Revelation) He made us to experience perfect love and transcendent purpose within the fellowship of the Trinity. It's important we know of these desires and where to fulfill them because it has great implications for how we should then live our lives. So hear this. The extent to which we're able to experience those things in the here and now is largely dependent on what we do with all that He has given us for "life and godliness." (1Ptr.1:1-4) He has given us His Word, Prayer, Fellowship and Worship. All those things, through the power of His indwelling Spirit, are there to help us grow in purity and holiness, which in turn allows us to experience greater oneness and depth of love and purpose with the Father. But yet, one thing still remains. Tragically, it’s the oft forgotten, undervalued or misinterpreted element of our sanctification. It’s the Missio Dei. The mission of God. It’s the command to go out into the world and make disciples. (Matt.28:18-20) It plays a vital role in us being able to experience the love, unity and purpose we long for. It’s in large part why Jesus “sent” His disciples and why it's so critical that each of us are sent today. Jesus knew sending us to live out the great commandment and the great commission in a fallen world would make for fertile soil in which to experience a deeper and more intimate union with Him. How so? Well, you’ll have to read the introduction to see how. But know this. Because sending is so critical to the mission of God and our own enjoyment of Him it's critical we, the church, do it well. This workbook will help you discern and engage in the kingdom purposes God designed specifically for you at this phase of your life. (Eph.2:10) Our prayer is that this course will leave you feeling developed and valued for how He made you and better prepared for the intimate adventure that lies ahead.
