“The Foundations of Learning: A Methodology for Teaching Children with Developmental Concerns” is the English translation of “Hattatsu no Okure ga Kininaru Kodomo no Oshiekata,” a Japanese book written by author Shunichi Kono. To foster learning of children with developmental disabilities, Part One describes the importance of the foundational ability to learn including various case examples. In Part Two, a field-tested methodology used for teaching preschool and elementary-age children is illustrated in detail for implementation at home. These include how to 1) develop a child’s foundational ability for learning, 2) improve speech and language comprehension, 3) inhibit repetitive speech and self-talking behavior, 4) promote reading and writing skills, and 5) develop communication skills. This book was originally published in Japan in 2007. Shunichi Kono is the CEO of the learning center, Élevé Théque (pronounced ɛ-lɛ-vɛ t-ɛ-k) as well as the author of 5 published titles.
