Set in the 1850's on the Great Plains of the United States, a flawed Cheyenne youth must overcome his own shortcomings while his small tribal band must overcome enemies, hunger and devastation. They must face up to immediate catastrophes as well as the gradual encroachment of advancing white civilisation. Traditions must be cast aside, unusual friendships formed and tribal assets, not the least of which is their strong womenfolk, must all be used to ensure that their way of life continues. It is a story of peace and war, friendship and enmity, life and death. It is the story of one small band of people but it is a spark in the forging of a continent.

Tom McMullen, a retired British Army Officer, is a keen amateur military and social historian with a special interest in the tribes of the Great Plains of the United States of America, their way of life in the nineteenth century and their resistance to white encroachment and settlement in that period. He is also interested in the operational difficulties faced by the US Cavalry and Infantry who were tasked to campaign against them in hard country. He has ridden in Wyoming, followed Apache trails in Arizona, traced original wagon tracks in Nebraska and walked battlefields and routes of march in Montana and Texas. As a hobby he fires antique American black powder firearms. He lives with his wife in England's Lake District. 'Cheyenne Trilogy: Between the Rivers' is his first book.
