His work and family ties led him to explore the area’s history and legends in addition to local headlines. He is also the author of A Fog of Ghosts: Haunted Tales & Odd Pieces as well as three mystery novels set in the Alleghenies. A native of Cumberland, Md., he has frequently written about American music and mountain lore.
