About the Author

Frank R. Stockton (1834-1902) was an American writer and humorist best known for his imaginative short stories and novels. Born in Philadelphia, Stockton first worked as an engraver before turning to writing, eventually becoming one of the most popular contributors to American magazines during the late nineteenth century.He achieved lasting fame with his famous short story "The Lady, or the Tiger?" and wrote numerous works blending humor, fantasy, and speculative ideas.
