J. Robert Ewbank is a third generation Methodist minister who graduated from Baker University, Baldwin, Kansas, in 1955 with a B.A. in psychology with honors and from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois with an M. Div. in theology in 1958. He returned three years later to work with Dr. Philip S. Watson on a master’s in the theology of John Wesley. His first book “John Wesley, Natural Man, and the ‘Isms” discusses the errors Wesley finds in Mysticism, Deism, Quakerism, Roman Catholicism, Judaism, and naturally, heathenism. His second book “Wesley’s Wars,” discusses the theological wars Wesley had to protect his followers from what he considered incorrect doctrine. The areas covered are Original Sin, Prevenient Grace vs. Predestination, Christian Perfection and his relationships with the Church of England and the Moravian Church. His third book “To Whom It May Concern” was primarily written for his family for Christmas 2013 but others will find the stories, remembrances etc of childhood, Baker University, Garrett Theological, and various companies well worth the reading. The Evangelical and United Brethren Church, Illinois Conference in 1964 asked him to discuss the theology of John Wesley. He has written and presented several talks and training classes on the theology of John Wesley. His father taught at Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah. His grandfather came over from England and preached at small Methodist churches in northern Arkansas and Kansas. He lives in Mobile, Alabama, with his wife, Betty, and is active in his local church, Saint Mark United Methodist Church. He has been a minister, Human Resource Manager, and taught several business topics in the evenings for different colleges.
