The series provides four semesters of ASL study in line with national standards for American Sign Language learning (ASLTA) and world language learning (ACTFL). They are intended for students taking a second language to meet degree requirements, as well as for students who wish to study ASL for career purposes.

Most importantly, this series is written by ASL language instructors (both Deaf and non-deaf) and is the culmination of a coordinated effort among these instructors and ASL students.
