Human Behavior Theory for Social Work Practice provides an in-depth examination of human behavior theories and helps students apply each theory to social work practice. Authors Terry Koenig, Rick Spano, and John Thompson cover a broad spectrum of theories—including ecological, psychological, and sociopolitical—before applying them to a wide range of case examples that represent different stages across the human lifespan. Drawing from their extensive knowledge and experience in social work practice and teaching, the authors also feature scholarly research and writing to support the understanding of the theoretical overview in each chapter.

Terry L. Koenig, PhD, LSCSW, professor, School of Social Welfare, University of Kansas, teaches human behavior theory, ethics, social work philosophy, and qualitative research methods. Sparked by relationships with her Kazakh daughter-in-law and grandchildren, she pursued a Fulbright scholarship to Kazakhstan in 2011 where she taught social policy with social work students on the Siberian steppe. Dr. Koenig’s scholarship examines ethical decision-making and cross-cultural aspects of social work practice. In addition, she has developed and supported a cross-cultural social work course between the School of Social Welfare and social work faculty at the Universitá del Sacro Cuore in Milan, Italy.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. This book focuses on the critical theory of human behavior by providing an in-depth presentation of each theory as well as a framework for critiquing and applying it. Differing from the traditional lifespan approach, this text dives into presenting each theory but then applies it to cases that represent different stages across the human life span. It is an ideal offering for programs that are looking for a deeper examination of theory at the micro and macro level.
