Connie L. Johnson is a poet, author, inspirational speaker, community educator and long term AIDS survivor. She is passionate about helping women and girls realize their optimum potential and utilizes her life experience, faith and words to uplift, encourage and empower. Through her writings Johnson addresses systemic economic, gender and racial inequalities that affect women and girls around the world. She is the founder of Truth Becomes Her, an online presence created to promote meaningful dialogue, provoke thought and celebrate Black womanhood. She is the creator of HerStory, an interactive creative writing workshop designed specifically to help women living with HIV/AIDS share their stories through poetry and other forms of creative writing. Johnson holds a B.A. in Child and Family Studies from Columbia College, Columbia SC and a M.A. in Social Justice and Community Development from Loyola University Chicago. She is currently employed as a Diverse Learning Specialist at Young Women’s Leadership Charter School in Chicago IL.
