CHAPTER 1

A Happier Place To Live In

* * *

When I look into your eyes, I see the fire
That burns there, it burns there for me.
Your smile that shines, shines for all the
World to see. I know that deep within
Your soul a heart beats in Tyme for all
The right reasons. It beats for those
Whom you Love so very much including
Myself. You're a wonderful person whose
Love is very definitely apparent. I am
So proud to be a reason you are so happy
And in Love and at peace with yourself.
I am so lucky to be an integral part of
Your life. With each and every day that
Passes I feel your Love growing more in
My life as well as your own life too.
Your Love is apparent in all the many
Things that you do for myself as well as
Others. Your Love is an important part
Of my life as well. With each look that
You give and with each smile that you
Relay to others you grow a little bit more
Each day. In doing so you share some
More of your Love that helps make me
And the rest of the world a happier place
    To live in.

    Always Love You

* * *

    I will always Love you,
    This I Know is true,
    And you will always be,
The one who's there for me.
And if the truth be told,
I'll Love you till I'm old.
    Say you'll be my man,
Who Loves me as I am.
    If we get the chance,
    We can share romance.
    If you let me try,
I'll Love you till I die.

    Angel of Hope

* * *

She's been there for me through thick and
Through thin. She always has an objective
Point of view. When I'm at my wits end
She's always there with some constructive
Criticism and words to guide me. Her
Personality is one of her greatest selling
Points. She always puts her clients first
And foremost. She has helped me to
Survive many a rough road that I have
Traveled on. She is the closest thing on
This earth to an angel. With kind words
And a soft temperament, she helps to fix
The many problems that enter her office
Each day. She is always there if an extreme
Dilemma arises to use her very own personal
Tyme to resolve it. She has been there
Over three decades now to help me through
My worst worries and biggest of problems.
I can easily say that she is not only a part
Of my "family" of friends, she is also one
Of the people that I Love and trust more
Than anyone else. She is truly a Godsend
If ever there was one. She is my angel of
Hope and I Love her for that.

    Because ...

* * *

I Love you because you're so good at caring,
I Love you because you're so good at sharing.

I Love you because you're my best friend,
I Love you because you'll be there until the end.

I Love you because you're so good to me,
I Love you because your soul sets me free.

I Love you for your big brown eyes,
I Love you because you're so smart and wise.

I Love you for your big bright smile,
I Love you for the way you make me laugh a while.

I Love you, you're the one that I kiss,
I Love you, you're the one that I miss.

I Love you because you're mine all mine,
I Love you because you look so fine.

I Love you because your heart is true,
I Love for all of the nice things that you do.

    Best of Friends

* * *

I just got off the phone with a really good friend.
She's one of those friends that you've known
For years and although we live far apart and
Rarely see each other we still stay close enough
So that when one of us calls the other we can
Always pick right up where we last left off.
She's not even really what you'd call a friend,
She's more like a member of the family to me.
We've known each other for going on 18 years
This year. Funny how it seems like just yesterday
When we were living as neighbors on Rosedale
Avenue. We used to each have apartments in the
Same house. We would get together and share
Great food, movies, some drinks and stories,
Not to mention we created some memories that
Will always remain engrained in our thoughts
Forever. Life was difficult for us and money
Was tight but we always managed to keep
Each other happy and to have good Tymes
That we'll never forget. The best part about
Being neighbors was that we always looked
Out for each other ... we always have and we
    Always will.

    Better Day

* * *

    Sitting on the front porch,
    Soaking up some rays.
    Just looking all around,
    See summer's on its way.
The squirrels in the trees are chiding,
The leaves on the trees are growing,
See a cat in the window grooming,
The grass is finally ready for mowing.
The flowers on the ground are blooming,
See birds flying up in the sky,
The air is warm and comforting,
Couldn't find a better day if I tried.

    Birthdays

* * *

Happy Birthday to you ... a day to celebrate all the years
You've been alive and to all the many more that will
Come your way. Days that we have spent together.
I hope that each day will be memorable and ones you
Will appreciate because they will be days that you
Spend with me. Special days for a special person
Like yourself. Memorable days of summer's past and
Ones of the summer's yet to be. Wonderful days
You will spend with me just enjoying your special day
Because it is a celebration of the day you were brought
Into this world. A special day to all of those who know
You and to your family too. A special day indeed.

    Blue Monday

* * *

It is another Monday today, the beginning
Of what could be a warm start to the week.
As I peek out the window I see another
Few inches of snow have arrived. There
Won't be a warm day today. The snow is
Heavy and wet as I shovel its contents off
Of the sidewalk. Cold and damp, my clothes
Cling to me and try to keep me warm and
Dry. The wet snow sticks to the shovel.
Next its Tyme to put down some salt so
The water that is left behind from the snow
Will not freeze up. I sprinkle it all around
And hope that the salt will do the trick.
I see others out shoveling and salting their
Sidewalks as well. As I spend my energy
Cleaning up the mess that Mother Nature
Left behind for us, I can't help but wonder
What can be done to hasten the move from
Winter to spring, changing the day from
Cold and wet to warm and wonderful. But
It is only January, that means that spring
Isn't going to be here any sooner by just
Wishing for it to speed up the clock another
Six to eight weeks. So there's just one thing
To do, just sit back and build a snowman and
    Try to enjoy the snow.

    Blurry

* * *

Everything's so blurry, nothing comes in clear,
I wish I had the power to wash away my fear.
I'd be the guy that I was years ago,
The one that lived his life alone.
I'd never talk to anyone else,
I'd leave my feelings on a shelf.
I'd take them down when I need to cry,
I'd watch the world go spinning by.
Then I'd find some brand new friends,
They'd help my broken mind to mend.
Then I'd be the guy that's always happy,
    Instead of feeling always crappy.
And I would find someone to Love,
With a little help from God above.
And I would never again be blue,
With help from my friends to see me through.

    Broken Window

* * *

There's something about trying to classify
Yourself that can really be difficult. I feel
Like I'm a broken window. I used to be
Shiny and perfectly smooth. Now I feel
Like a window that has had a baseball or
A stone thrown through it. Now my edges
Are jagged and uneven. No longer smooth
But sharp shards of glass that puncture, rip
And tear at the air. Once shiny and even
Now rough and rigged and ripping at the air
That passes through it. Once pleasant and
Even, now coarse and irregular with shards of
Myself missing from the pane. Bits of
Myself that used to make up the whole are
Now fragmented and lost over Tyme. This
Leaving me less than myself and wondering
How to put all of my remains back together
And make me the perfect sheet of glass
That I once was. With each piece of the
Panel missing is a part of myself that was
Once a part of me that made up my entire
Self and made me to be me. SomeTymes
You can fix a broken window and bring the
Debris together again, but once damaged
The window is never as strong as it once
    Was in the first place.

    Catherine

* * *

As I think back to my many years in school,
I can't help but remember my first Love way
Back in middle school on a beautiful girl by
The name of Catherine. She had the kind of
Eyes that capture your heart and never let go.
We were the best of friends and we shared
A lot of the same family issues so we were
Lost when Love took us by storm. I still
Remember our first kiss was in a haunted
House we were checking out at the Tyme.
We used to spend hours and hours on the
Phone, discussing our lives and our futures.
For whatever reason we went our separate
Ways. I can still hear her voice in me head
Reminding me just how special our relation-
Ship was and how wonderful it was to be in
Love for the very first Tyme in my life. That
First relationship made me feel special. Even
Though we were just plain people, we felt as
If we had the world by the tail. We thought
That nothing could stand in our way. We
Used to pass notes during the passing Tyme
Between classes. I remember how I used
To save each and every note as if they were
Written on gold leaf, rereading them Tyme
And Tyme again. They always made me feel
Happy and special, especially with such a
Cute and wonderful girl. I wonder what
Ever happened to all those notes anyway?

    Christmas Carols

* * *

Christmas carols and seasonal songs are the
Music of the holiday. They remind us of the
Reason for the holidays: sharing and caring
For ourselves and our fellow man. Melodies
That tell of all the things that children hold
Dear: Santa Claus and all his elves, a famous
Reindeer, a snowman and the joy of the
Nativity scene. Sweet little tunes that help
Make our spirits light and jovial in a Tyme
Of Year when the cold weather can really
Bring us down. Harmonies that we sing in groups
And parade around the neighborhood helping
To spread the good cheer to those who may
Need a bit of joy in their lives. Music that
We hear while we are shopping for gifts for
The people I our lives who make our days a
Bit more special. Hymns that we sing in
Church that remind us to be joyful and happy
For the seasons to come and for no other
Reason than to just make us feel good ... and
That truly is a wonderful thing.
