In the larger view of this book, there is a timeline of life-experiences that I either felt or encountered. Each short story in this collection was inspired by, or loosely based on, actual events from my life or the lives of others known to me, either directly or indirectly. However, the overarching perspective is from the world of the Spirit, with a deep love and belief in God and His Angels, juxtaposed with the world of the Rule (the secular world). Within this dichotomy, the life-experiences of an adult are frequently interlaced with a child’s point of view, as well as the mystique of the “angel effect.”

About the Author

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ray Duarte, RN, a nephrology specialist, researcher and clinical instructor, has published in medical journals and lectured at national medical conferences. One of his articles “Seismic Risks in Nephrology” was referenced in The New England Journal of Medicine. His articles have also appeared in Dialysis and Transplantation magazine, a peer-reviewed publication, as well as the ASAIO Transactions. He is the recipient of several professional and scientific awards. After publishing thirty abstracts and nine manuscripts in his field, he changed his focus from technical to creative writing in 2005, specializing in short stories written from the heart. His story “Forever Smile” was published in the New York Times best selling series, Chicken Soup for the Soul - Love Stories (February 2008). His short story “Fate Glistens” was published as part of an anthology of stories about fate, The Mystery of Fate – Common Coincidence or Divine Intervention? (February 2010). In this true account, Ray describes the fateful impact on him and his family of a moderately strong earthquake that struck the suburb of Los Angeles, Sylmar, California in 1971.
