Bruno P. Schlesinger (1911-2010), one of the many refugee intellectuals and scholars who fled from Nazism in the 1930s, taught for sixty years at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. This sketch of his life story and professional career honors his personal contribution to American Catholic higher education and at the same time calls attention to a topic worthy of much more research – the role played by these refugees in the development of American Catholic intellectual life in the mid-twentieth century.
