About the Author
Tennessee Reed is the author of six poetry collections, most recently New and Selected Poems 1982-2011, (World Parade Books, 2011), and a memoir Spell Albuquerque Memoirs of a "Difficult Student" (Counterpunch and AK Press, 2009). Adventures Among the X Challenged is her first published novel. Ms. Reed has read her work throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Palestine and Japan. She has received her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and her M.F.A from Mills College. Ms. Reed is the managing editor of Konch Magazine and the secretary of PEN Oakland

Dakota's students were older than she and took advantage of the difference by harassing her and ridiculing her. She finally quit the teaching profession when the authorities confessed they couldn't keep the students from assaulting professors. At her next job, her boss was a paraplegic who ran a cent for independent living with a strong hand. She had all of the charm of an Ahab and because she was physically disabled, she felt superior to those whose disabilities were invisible. Like those writers who've used levity and iron to make serious points, Jill Nelson, Alice Randall, Sola Agusston and Adrienne Kennedy, Tennessee Reed uses her Brueghelian gufts for descriptions of major and minor characters.
