Synopsis

It is the time of America’s great westward migration, when Manifest Destiny beckons to the hopeful and the lure of gold beguiles the foolish and the greedy. Countless numbers of willing men go in search of land and fortune. Jacob Victor heeds the call and leaves the family farm in Ohio to escape the growing tumult of the Civil War and to join the many others who set out to follow the California Trail. His adventure draws him into the ongoing conflict between prideful people of two nations separated by vast differences, and he learns that their ways of life and claims to the land will be changed forever. In an alliance forged by chance and necessity, Jake and a lone Shoshoni horseman find a common purpose in their struggle for survival. Two ordinary men caught in extraordinary times, they must use wit and will to protect what is theirs. The men and women of this great historic era will shape the Old West and preserve a proud tradition for the generations who will follow. They are tamers of the mestengo—they are The Mustang Riders. Richard Hooton weaves a tale of the western frontier that is filled with adventure, suspense, heartache and triumph, as he introduces bold characters who come to life and capture the hearts and minds of his readers as they ride across the pages of history.
