Synopsis

More than just a reference book, Seminary Smackdown! goes far deeper into Christian thought and experience than most fluff books weighing down the shelves today. Plumbing the depths of Scripture, Theology, and Church History reveals surprisingly relevant answers to today's problems. After all, people are people - 3,000 years ago they were trying to feed their families, keep up their homes and deal with squabbles the same way we do today. Approaching problems every pastor faces like a family asking, "Grandma is terminally ill and languishing in terrible pain. Is euthanasia even an option for Christians?" Besides that, there are topics like: "Preaching on controversial issues such as homosexuality" A grieving sister rushes to the pastor asking if her wayward brother is in Heaven. She wants to know when EXACTLY is someone considered 'IN' the family of GOD. Infant Baptism, Rituals, and how Leadership in the church can make decisions in a way congruent with Scripture. Greeted by a stunning guide to the Land, People, Places, and Prophets of the Biblical World - you'll not only get to know the movers and shakers of the Ancient world, but what they had to do with the Bible...and us today! There's also numerous guides for practical applications for ministry. Included are "real-life" samples of 5 year plans for moving your church from Maintainence to Missional. Along with that are guides for 5 year plans for modifying church Leadership and experiencing GOD-honoring worship. These are not proposed theories, but actual plans you can look at. Many were implemented in real church settings! Written by a someone on the "front-lines" of ministry for others who faithfully stand in the gap, there IS something in here for you. So try it! Read it. Take what you can use and leave the rest. And if you don't find something in it you like, defenestrate it! (i.e. throw it out a window)...yeah, I had to look that one up.
