Helen Dickson founded her online pattern business, Bustle & Sew, in 2009. She creates designs for patterns that are lively, interesting and fresh, and that she hopes will inspire others to pick up fabric and thread to produce their own piece of work, with all the sense of achievement that brings. Helen was taught to sew by her Mum while she stitched one of her wonderful hand embroidered creations, now cherished family heirlooms. As they sat together over their embroidery she would patiently show her little girl the basics, and Helen was soon stitching her own first projects. The knowledge of hand embroidery that my Mum and Grandma passed on to Helen as she grew up has truly been worth its weight in gold over the years. Helen was so lucky to benefit from this wonderful stitching inheritance, to share their hints and tips and learn the secrets they acquired slowly and painstakingly during the course of their lifetimes, and now she wants to pass this knowledge onto others. Helen lives in Devon, in an old farmhouse near the sea, with her two Newfoundland dogs, Ben and Daisy. Keep up-to-date with all their adventures on the Bustle & Sew blog, as well as stitching news and special offers too when you join Helen's free newsletter.
