Synopsis
It's been over a year since Dena Caulter moved to California and enrolled in Stanford University. The 1940 fall semester brings continuous talk of war and politics. A romantic aura settles on the war effort, enticing many young men and women to enlist. Whispered conversations about those enlisted, those leaving for Europe, those who have died in combat--those names are familiar to Dena. No longer are they faceless strangers but they are aquaintances, friends, even family. Howard Hughes programs, which bring many engineers back to the West Coast and Stanford U. Among them is Clay Brewster, her beloved husband after a whirlwind romance. Soon he too, goes to the Royal Air Force in England...to war...along with him goes her heart.
