Ancient history didn't just happen in far off places like Rome or Athens. It happened all across St. Louis, probably in your own backyard. For decades Chesterfield, Missouri has been the focus of professional archaeological research. Did you know that mastodon era hunters camped on a hillside near Faust Park? Did you know the largest surviving burial mound in St. Louis County is located in Chesterfield? Did you hear about the massive 1,000 year old market center that was recently excavated in the Chesterfield Valley? "Chesterfield's Ancient Past" expands on the earlier book, "A Guide to Chesterfield's Ancient History," which is no longer in print. 100% of profits from the sale of this book will be donated to local archaeology related nonprofit organizations. YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR HOMETOWN THE SAME WAY AGAIN!

Mark W. Leach lives in Chesterfield, Missouri with his wife, two sons, and English bulldog, Beatrice. Mark first became interested in archaeology when his youngest son found a 4,000 year old stone knife in their neighborhood creek. This chance discovery sparked his interest, motivating him to discover and document numerous prehistoric Native American archaeological sites in the Chesterfield area. He is a past vice-president of the Missouri Archaeological Society and former board member with the Powell Archaeological Research Center. Mark currently serves as a trustee to the former, and is a commissioner with the Chesterfield Historic and Landmarks Preservation Commission. He is the founding member of the Missouri Mound Adoption Project (a coalition of volunteers dedicated to the preservation of Native American burial mounds) and co-director of the Blake Mound Preservation Project. His writing includes six works of non-fiction, an educational archaeology website (Mac Quest Program), as well as two archaeology documentaries. Mark's other books available on Amazon may be found through searching Mark W. Leach.
