Torfoot is based on the life and true adventures of Thomas Brownlee, a right wing commander with the Covenanter army in 17th century Scotland. This story is based on historical accounts taken from Brownlee’s memoirs and interpretations of the battles of Drumclog and Bothwell Bridge where Brownlee was captured by the Royalist forces ordered to dispose of free thinking Covenanters who refused to give up their rights and religious beliefs to appease King Charles of England. This adventure chronicles events from what was known as the Fifty Year Struggle and the Killing Times in southwest Scotland and ultimately ends generations afterwards with descendants of Thomas Brownlee going to America for a new start in the Midwest and eventually the Pacific Northwest. This is a prequel to the book Nasturtiums for Grandma Minnie, published in November of 2011. Both works bring the Coffey and Brownlee families together to tell their history and stories of adventure, faith, love and struggle spanning many generations and hundreds of years of family history.
