However, many people speak the words of this prayer without thinking about the meanings of those words. The Lord’s Prayer: Meditations on the Words We Say is a series of short essays/meditations on each word of the prayer, reflecting on the significance of each word to a Christian life. This is not a scholarly exegesis of the passage, nor is it a learned and informed explication; it is not a revelation of the truth and meaning of this passage; it is not a historically accurate reading; it is not the final word on this topic. I have not discovered some secret code nor am I suggesting that the passage was intended to be read this way. This has just been a way for me to think about ideas, a kind of meditation on the passage–something akin to Edward Taylor’s poem-meditations. I am not a biblical scholar; I am not clergy; I am not a spokesman for any particular group. I am a believer in the mercy, the grace, the love of Jesus Christ. This is a collection of my meditations on this passage.
