Synopsis
Small and mid-size businesses need rapid, low-cost,
successful implementations. It's time to help them achieve all three goals.
Implementers always start with good intentions whether they're professional
consultants or company personnel. Then the process starts to break down because
of lack of resources or experience. In some cases, the breakdown occurs because
of unwarranted optimism. For those instances, I've kept a magic wand in my
office for many years.
This book is written for business owners, managers, and
technology personnel. Most of the book addresses project
culture--recommendations for the business owners and managers contemplating or
involved in a business management system implementation. The remainder of the
book addresses more technical decisions and processes that can be undertaken
for a rapid implementation. I've added the last two chapters because I needed
to write those stories down and stop telling them to anyone whom I could corner
long enough to listen.
This book doesn't develop an entirely new approach of
project management. It relies upon components of common project management
theories. It also suggests that many common project management processes may be
set aside.
