Synopsis

Sentio (Latin for "I feel") is a collection of thirteen essays and four short stories written over a period of about 25 years. It is a sort of companion volume to a collection of essays the author published a few years ago called Cogito, which focussed on intellectual themes. The pieces in Sentio are more personal and emotional. They emphasize feeling more than thinking. Included in the collection are essays on living in San Francisco, several religious reflections, a few essays on cohabiting with cats, a meditation on losing friends in midlife, a colloquy with God, and a story recollecting a past life. Though each essay or story stands on its own, taken together they form a portrait of what it's like to be alive in the world today.
