James M. Mosley retired from the US Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after twenty years on active duty and ten years in the reserves. He became the first African-American Medical Corpsman to graduate from the Naval Nuclear Power Engineering School and was profiled in the Jet Magazine November edition in 1958 among the other firsts, ( profiled in the book). After a military career, he retired from General Dynamics as a life time member of the Electric Boat Management Association after twenty four years in the Purchasing Department as a Buyer Specialist and served as the Minority Business and Small Business Administrator for Electric Boat Division. He was presented the Nathan Hale Award by Mitchell College for exemplary service to country, community and college. While at Electric Boat Division he received awards for saving the company over one million dollars. He also received a monetary award for an adopted suggestion that directly contributes to the effectiveness and improvement of operations during submarine construction. He is presently serving as the Connecticut Vice President for Legislation for the National Association of Uniform Services (NAUS). He was inducted into the Holland Club as a member who was qualified in submarine operations for fifty years. He is a graduate of Mitchell College and Eastern Connecticut State University. He lives in Waterford , Connecticut with his wife Gloria.
