After getting his degrees (B.S. and M.A.) from The College of Steubenville and Marshall U. and teaching in both public and parochial schools for a number of years, John Pifko was challenged by Father John Hardon, S.J., "You can write books, too! " The seeds of encouragement were planted.
In July, 2009, a form letter was sent to about fifty priests, sisters, friends, converts and former parishioners of Fr. S. Eugene Jacobs asking them during the "Year of the Priest" why he was a favorite priest of so many people. Also, how did Fr. Jacobs fulfill their ideas of what a priest should be? Their replies are quoted as tributes or reminiscences throughout this book - My Favorite Priest, A Convert Maker.
An article published in the Homiletic and Pastoral Review gives a synopsis of the priestly life of this convert maker. His life is unique in that the numbers of converts he brought into the Catholic Church through the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary were in the thousands!
His legacy also includes the founding of St. Vincent Pallotti Hospital, which flourished from 1950 to 1970 in Morgantown, WV, and the founding of a Birthright Center in Huntington, WV, in 1973. It is still saving many babies from abortion. Father was passionately pro-life.
A very timely book about an outstanding priest!
